My Cape Epic weight loss plan: update #1

A quick check-in on the weight loss plan I posted here exactly one month ago: I stepped off the scale this morning at 80.7kg. That's 0.9kg down from my starting point of 81.6kg last month, which is pretty close to ''my target'' of 1.1kg per month.

And yes, I hear you think ''this is just one measurement'', or ''yeah, that guy just had a number two and walked to the scale right after''. But...since I weigh myself regularly, I can see I'm definitely on a downward trajectory. And I also start to feel the difference when putting on my jeans ;-).

So far, the approach is working quite well. Honestly, I haven't changed much about my diet. A couple of things though I am paying attention to:

  1. I definitely eat less snacks (like peanuts or chips), which saves calories quickly.
  2. Hardly any alcohol. Although I wasn't a heavy drinker by any means, I now maybe have a few drinks per month only, if the occasion is there. But even on these social occasions, my default typically is 0.0 or sparkling water.
  3. After evening sessions on the Kickr, I have a banana and/or some yoghurt with added protein powder, that is just enough to kill my hunger till I am asleep (and as such, reduces the grave for snacking ;-))

At this pace of 1kg per month, I'll hit around 77.5kg by end of December, putting me more or less on track for my 74kg target by March. And even if I show up at the prologue of Cape Epic at 75, or even 76 kg, it is still 6-7kg less than when I started training. Which definitely makes a meaningful difference.

Especially with my FTP in a pretty good upwards trajectory....but more on that later ;-).

Until then, Keep Chasing!
